Ace Charles, 87, of Cameron, died Thursday April 3, 2008 surrounded by loved ones.
Mr. Charles was born December 23, 1920 in the rural Western edge of the Navajo Nation, and where he lived his life. He served in the U.S. Army during the Pacific Campaign from 194101945. Upon return he married Romona H. Knight of Cameron, and is survived by their children Leroy Charles Sr., of Cameron, Verna Singer of Cameron; Rosemary Roehm, of Cameron; Ruth (Stanley) Knight of Valle; Marie (Oliver) Mann of Cameron; Charlie (Genevieve) Charles of Cameron; and Alden (Mary Jane) of Cameron; 27 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Robbins of Cameron and Mary Navajo of Cameron.
Mr. Charles has served the Navajo Nation as a well respected political figure for many years. Upon his retirement he lived a full humble life ranching and being the greatest grandpa.
He was proceeded in death by his son Phillip Charles, Jerry Charles; grandsons Tommy Charles; Travis and Jarvis Mann; Anthony Singer and granddaughter Victoria Singer.
Funeral Service will be Monday, April 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. (MST) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Linda Vista Building in Flagstaff. Burial will conclude services in the Veterans Section of Citizens Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion. A reception will be at the American Legion.
