ALICE CAREW BATTALI

Born Bronx, NY April 6, 1928, Deceased Flagstaff, AZ September 21, 2019

Alice passed away quietly at Olivia White Hospice with her youngest daughter Judy by her side.

Alice had a full and exciting life from the Bronx in New York to New Milford New Jersey and then following her beloved husband Carl to the wild west of Flagstaff Arizona with their 4 children. Alice's love for community and her family had no bounds, she never met a stranger. Alice was always bringing home someone in need. Whether they were a bicyclist that was stuck in a snow storm on highway 180, a college student in need of a place to stay, even the Chinese Symphony members and director who needed a place to stay while performing at NAU. Alice's early career started in medicine as a ward clerk and transcriptionist at Bergen Pines Hospital and Flagstaff Community Hospital. Then as a Medical Assistant to Dr. Thomas Davee Internist. She then ventured into sales and community service with KAFF Radio and ran the original COATS FOR KIDS program. Alice then went on to a very successful and enriching job with Goodwill Industries where she was a job coach working with disabilities and getting sponsors for programs they used. Alice was a terrific salesperson and a lover of causes and organizations she worked with. Alice developed contacts of which so many became close friends. Alice sold sponsorships for her organizations and even catered many events, yet she still had plenty of time with her very busy family life. Alice's organizational volunteering started with the Red Cross during WW2 selling war bonds and helping at the dances they had for our war heroes. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, a Brownie & Girl Scout Leader, 4H Leader, a long time member of the Northern Arizona Horseman's Association. Alice and Carl were both active in the American Legion and the Marine Corp league. Alice herself donned Marine fatigues and made many helicopter trips into the Grand Canyon to assist Santa in delivering Christmas to the Supai Nation. This is where she earned the title of GRAMBO. She was an active member of the Flagstaff Noon Lions club, eventually becoming a Vice President and President. Alice secret love of art, of which she was an exceptional artist that no one knew, but had an artists eye for everything. She joined Theatricos helping with promotional  aspects and catering events. She will be sorely missed by so many.

Alice is proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Alice Carew, her dear sisters Ellen Werner & Jean Speilman and of course her husband Charles Joseph Battali. Alice leaves behind her four children, Judith Bercia, Beth Cordes, Charles John Battali(Kathleen) and Kathleen Lawson; four grandchildren Amanda Cordes, Sara Cordes, Dakota Bercia and Patrick Battali and two great grandchildren Aiden Cordes and Breeanna Cordes.
