Allan Eugene Bergland was born on March 15, 1935 in Fargo, ND. but lived in Moorhead, MN. during his early life.  He married college sweetheart, Wilma LuAnn Johnson on Sept. 1, 1957 (deceased Aug. 5, 2020) and soon moved to Arizona.  Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy., Al was a proud veteran.

Al earned three collegiate degrees: Bachelor of Science, Concordia College, Moorhead, MN in 1957, Master of Business Administration, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ in 1959, and Doctor of Philosophy, University of Arizona, Tucson, AZ in 1967.

Dr. Bergland was a tenured Professor of Economics in the Business Administration at Northern Arizona University from 1966 to 1990.  Al earned himself a reputation as a tough professor and test grader.  He struck fear in the hearts and minds of many a business major, especially those who failed to sign-up for their economics classes early enough to avoid having to take his classes!

Al's life passion was hunting and fishing, so much so that it took him to extremely remote locations all over North America, including above the Artic Circle.

To say that Al was an accomplished hunter would be a gross understatement.  Al completed the prestigious "North American Super Slam" in August 2014 after successfully hunting all "Super 25" of the North American Big Game Animals.  In doing so, Al became only the 171st hunter to achieve this amazing milestone, as confirmed and acknowledged by the Grand Slam Club/OVIS of Birmingham, AL.  He was also recognized by GSC/OVIS for completing the Grand Slam of North American Wild Sheep, becoming only the 579th hunter to accomplish this feat.

Al also loved to fish.  So much so that he eventually got a cabin on the Skeena River in Northern British Columbia so that he could fish the wide variety of salmon available there to his heart's desire, while keeping one eye out for bears!

Al, 89, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 1, 2024 in Flagstaff, AZ.  He is survived by daughter, Debby Ann Demyanek and son-in-law, Walter Demyanek, Jr., of Flagstaff, AZ.
