Obituary

Annie DeMiguel of Flagstaff, AZ passed away peacefully surrounded by her children at the age of 90 on April 3, 2018.

She was born in Miami, AZ on February 11, 1928 as Anita Paleo Rodriquez.  Her parents Augusto and Lola Rodriguez were from Spain.  Annie was the eldest of their four children, and she enjoyed a happy childhood in the little mining town of Superior, AZ.

Annie attended her freshman year at ASU in Tempe and then transferred to NAU in 1947 where she met the love of her life, Manuel DeMiguel.  She was active in many organizations at NAU and in 1949 was voted "NAU's Homecoming Queen" and was also inducted into "Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges."  Annie was known for her gentle and sweet disposition.  Her love and passion for children was the spark that began her 26-year teaching career at Killip and Weitzel Elementary Schools.

Annie was preceded in death by Manuel, her husband of fifty-two years.  During those years, they travelled the world and enjoyed their ever-growing family.  Their joyous and committed love continues to inspire generations.  Annie treasured good times with family and friends.  Her children appreciate that she always encouraged them to chase their dreams.

Annie is survived by four children: Yvonne Greer (Steven deceased) of Winslow, AZ; Lyndella Bauchman (Stephen) of Challis, ID; Manuel DeMiguel Jr. (Karen) of Phoenix, AZ; and Anita DeMiguel Lacy of Scottsdale, AZ.  Eleven grandchildren: Stephanie Bereznicki (Jack) of Long Island, NY; Ryan Greer (Leah) of Winslow, AZ; Alicia Webster (Hayden) of Lodi, CA; Geoffrey Bauchman (Jessica) of Boise, ID; Michael Bauchman (Gladys) of Challis, ID; Chad DeMiguel of Phoenix, AZ; Mikel Anne Arnce (Dave) of Ahwatukee, AZ; Dylan DeMiguel (Mackenzie) of Tempe, AZ; JT,  Lauren and Randee Lacy of Scottsdale, AZ and eleven great grandchildren.  She is also survived by her sister Teresa Florez and two brothers, Dr. Louis Rodriquez (Irma) and Ray Castro (Beverly) of Phoenix, AZ.

Annie and her family are extremely grateful to all who have been an important part of her life.  Whether family, friend, or student you are loved.  It is because of you that Annie would often say, "I've had a good life."

A funeral mass is scheduled for 10:00 am on Friday, April 13, 2018 at San Francisco de Asis Parish 1600 E. Route 66 Flagstaff, AZ 86001.  She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Calvary Cemetery.
