Antonio "Tony" J. Nunez, 88 of Flagstaff passed away on June 7, 2016 surrounded by family in Seattle, Washington.

Tony was born in Flagstaff, Arizona on December 2, 1927 to Adelaida Jauriqui and Eligio R. Nunez. He attended Flagstaff High School where he enjoyed playing football, and after graduating he married the love of his life Nellie Sedillo on November 21st, 1949.

In 1945, Tony joined the Navy and served our country as a Chief Petty Officer. After serving his active duty in the Navy, Tony joined the reserves and stayed for 31 years. Then, in 1977 he joined the Army National Guard for another 10 years, as a Master Sergeant. During those years he also went to work at the Navajo Army Depot for most of his life where he also retired. As a proud WWII Veteran, Tony spent over 42 years serving our Country.

During his time with the military, some of his accomplishments include; The Victor WWII, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the National Defense Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the Armed
Forces Reserve Medal. More of Tony's accomplishments include; He was appointed to the National Aide-de-camp and Campaign Chairman for Clory Duran, who made State Commander and later became his personal aide. Later in his life, he actively participated as a Volunteer donating time to the St. Vincent DePaul.

Both Tony and wife Nellie were active members of the VFW and eventually he became a post
commander. They were also active members of The American Legion, Woodman of the World, LULAC, and Catholic War Veterans (Commander). They both enjoyed dancing, camping, hunting and spending time with family and friends. He will truly be missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Nellie Nunez along with daughter Carmen McHugh and her husband Mike. He has 3 grandchildren; Michelle Solsvik, husband Steinar, Monica Poe, husband Tony and Marie McHugh, wife Heather. He also has 5 great grandchildren Morgan, Mikayla, Taylor, Mike and Jax. Numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and close friends.

Tony is preceded in death by his parents Adelaida Jauriqui and Eligio R. Nunez and his brothers Max Nunez, wife Cedra, Paul Nunez, wife Pila, Joe Nunez, wife Mary, Adencio Nunez, Antonio Nunez and sisters Esordra Nunez, and Ines Nunez.

Services for Tony including a Rosary at 9:30am and Mass at 10:30am will be held in Flagstaff, AZ on Tuesday June 21st at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, 224 S Kendrick St. and the burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery, 201 W University Ave.
