Betty Farley passed away in her home on October 5, 2005. Born Betty Marie Cook on August 27, 1922, Betty grew up in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Having survived the devastating years of the dust bowl Midwest with her family, her father went on to build one of the first telephone exchanges in Oklahoma. She married professional golfer and golf course architect Floyd Farley in 1952, and provided a wonderful home to him and family. She especially enjoyed cooking and created amazing Thanksgiving and Christmas feasts for her family She traveled to Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe and enjoyed cruises all ov=
er the world. As long-time residents of Oklahoma City, she and Floyd enjoyed golf and retired to the Village of Oak Creek in 1985, where she played golf almost on a daily basis until suffering a double brain aneurism in 1997. Betty was valedictorian of her 1940 high school graduating class, and went on to become one of the country's first female radio station engineers in Oklahoma City during World War II. A woman of tremendous strength and will power, she told friends and family that she did not want to live one day after the passing of her husband, and almost achieved that goal when she died four days after Floyd's passing on October 1, 2005. A sister, Margery Carpenter, a stepdaughter, Joanie Estabrook, and two grandchildren survive her. Private services were held jointly with immediate family and friends. She had a delightful and endearing personality, and was enjoyed by many. All will sorely miss her. Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to:
