Carol McElwain passed peacefully on August 10 at the age of 75 with her family by her side. She was born September 26, 1942 in Williston, ND. Carol attended UND where she met her husband of nearly 55 years, Wade McElwain, and graduated from Valley City State College with a degree in English. Carol taught freshman English in Minneapolis, Minnesota for several years before moving to Flagstaff in 1978. In Flagstaff, Carol developed close friendships - many of which shared a special connection to the midwest, a deep appreciation for family, a fondness for travel and a love for each other's company. She also enjoyed a career in Real Estate where her genuine, affectionate and sparkling personality helped her succeed. Carol was a loving, authentic and compassionate wife, mother, sister and friend. She is survived by her husband Wade; children Teri (Steve) Holmes, Steve (Maggie) McElwain and Erin (Todd) Youngblood. Grandchildren Chase, Brayden, Cadence, Meghan, Margo and Axel. A memorial service will be held at 4pm on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Flagstaff.
