Flagstaff lost an angel last week, as Carole A. Grim passed away on Friday, July 31, 2015, of ovarian cancer. Carole was born to Nell and Clifford Werly in Alameda, Ca. on January 30th, 1933. She spent her youth moving around the US and Canada during WW II, before graduating high school in Santa Barbara, Ca. in 1951. There, she met the love of her life, Norman Grim. They moved to Santa Monica, then Davis, Ca., and finally to Flagstaff where they spent the remainder of their 61 years of happy marriage. She worked in banking in Santa Barbara and during the 1960s was secretary of the flying club at U.C. Davis. She worked for several years for the "Yarn Barn;" as she had a passion and tremendous talent for knitting! She was an active member and president of the Flagstaff Highland Homemakers. She spent many years volunteering at Planned Parenthood, where she put her beliefs into action. Carole was a dedicated wife and super-mom, homemaker extraordinaire, and cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. She was famous for her wonderful meals, hand-knitted gifts and quick wit. Carole had two children, Stephen (Cathy) and Kristi (Jeff), five grandchildren, Adam (Tracey), Brian, Aron, Michelle (Cristian) and Jennifer (Chris), and two great-grandchildren, Troy and Mason. In addition, her warmth, support, and easy spirit were extended to her "chosen family" of friends whom she loved throughout her life, some for more than 60 years. She joins her parents and grandson, Brian in peaceful rest. She will be deeply missed, but will live on in the hearts of all the many who have loved her, and who love her still. Graveside services will be held at the west side of the veterans' section of the Flagstaff Cemetery on Friday August 7th at 10:00 AM.
