Celia "Sally" G. Almendarez, longtime resident of Flagstaff, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at age 72 with her family by her side. She was born April, 27, 1944, in Flagstaff, Arizona to Andres and Ramona Gallegos.
Sally was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She attended South Beaver School as a child and Flagstaff High School. She worked at Flagstaff Junior High in the school's cafeteria for many years while being a full-time homemaker. She enjoyed having lunch with her friends every Wednesday and she was the Arizona Diamondbacks #1 fan. She loved you to visit and welcomed you with a smile. Sally's whole life revolved around her family and friends. She loved spending time with them, it brought her great joy and she loved them to no end. Sally was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.
Sally was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joe (Charlie) B. Almendarez, her parents, her brother Jerry Gallegos and her sisters Dora Ayala and Ramona Lomeli.
Sally is survived by her three sons, Charlie Joe (Tricia) Almendarez, Andrew (Nancy) Almendarez, and Peter Almendarez; three grandchildren, Avelina, Pete and Kristi-Ana; her sister Gloria (Richard) Montoya, brother Daniel (Rosie) Gallegos and many nieces and nephews.
Holy Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2017, with funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church; 224 S Kendrick St, Flagstaff, Arizona. A reception following the mass will be held in the church basement.
