Clyde was born August 09, 1918 in Flagler, Colorado to William
Henry Strode and Mamie Elnora Neff. Clyde passed away on March 19, 2008 in Flagstaff, Arizona, from complications related to Gastric-cancer.

Clyde was born the on a ranch into a large family being the eighth child of four brothers and five sisters, Claude Aretas, Alta Vereta, Rethal Rose, Gilbert Loren, Elnora Marium, Thelma Leora, Jay Judsen, Stephen Stanley and Faye Leota. Clyde attended school through the 9th grade. In his late teens he found work on a ranch in western Colorado near Meeker where he worked his way up to foreman. During this time, Clyde met Ella Witherell at a town dance. They were married, after courting for a few years, on December 24, 1939.

After World War II started, Clyde enlisted in the Army in Denver, Colorado, March 30,l942, after basic and infantry training he served in Northern Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was rotated back to the U. S. where his duties were guarding POW's at a camp in Ogden,
Utah. He was honorably discharged at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City on September 07, 1945.

Clyde and Ella lived in Salt Lake City for eighteen years. They were very active in their
community and the LDS religion. Clyde was employed as an auto mechanic by several new car dealerships in Salt Lake. He also owned his own auto repair business. He moved the family to Ephraim, Utah for a few years then moved to Fontana, California where he was employed by Kaiser Steel as a mechanic until his retirement on August 14, 1982.

After Clyde's retirement, he and Ella moved to Wendell, Idaho, close to one of his sisters, Elnora and his brother Jay. While living there, he and Ella served on a mission for the LDS Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They moved to St George, Utah in September, 1993, residing there until October 2004 when they moved to Flagstaff.

After his retirement in 1982, Clyde actively investigated the family genealogy with Son-in-Law Edward Roberts. They traced the Strode side of the family back into the 1500's. Another of his loves was gardening, especially his roses. He could grow roses just about anywhere he found a spot to plant one. Story telling and reading filled a lot of his time in later years.

Clyde is survived by his wife, Ella in Flagstaff, AZ; sister, Faye in San Antonio, TX,
daughter, Faye Ann Roberts in Hesperia, CA; son, Stephen Jay Strode in Flagstaff, AZ and son, William Edgar Strode in Liverpool, New York. Another son, Mark Clay Strode succumbed to complications from tuberculosis in the VA Hospital in Palo Alto, CA on December 17, 1998.

Also surviving Clyde are 8 Granddaughters, 1 step Granddaughter, 2 Grandsons, 12
Great Granddaughters, 3 Step Great Granddaughters, 7 Great Grandsons, 1 Step Great
Grandson, 3 Great Great Granddaughters.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66.
