Dan O. Atkinson, 72, of Flagstaff, AZ, passed away on October 18, 2023. He was born on July 17, 1951 in Boise, Idaho, and was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and father figure to many. Dan will be remembered for his kindness, compassion, and generosity, always willing to lend a helping hand without being asked.
Beloved son, Dan is survived by a cherished mother, Elizabeth Poitevin Atkinson, his loving wife, Polly, and his children, Paula, Sean, and Josh. He was also cherished by his grandchildren and many other family members who considered him and Polly as parents. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Hawley Atkinson, and his brother, Hawley Atkinson Jr.
His professional life began from the toolbox provided by his own father; Dan went on to become a custom home builder. He served on the Summit Fire Board for 30 years, leaving a lasting impact on the community he served. Outside of work, he cherished the simple joys in life-- golfing with his brother, mother, and son; fishing with his grandchildren; and spending quality time with his family.
Dan Atkinson will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of kindness and generosity will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with him.
A memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held on Friday, October 27th, 2023, at 10:30 AM at Norvel Owens Mortuary, located at 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, Arizona 86001. Following the service, a gravesite ceremony will take place at 12:00 PM at Citizen Cemetery, located at 1300 S San Francisco St, Flagstaff, AZ 86001.
