David Lee McCallum, 68 of Flagstaff, Arizona passed away March 5, 2015.

David was born August 20, 1946 in Los Angeles, California to Joan Mae Tibbett. He graduated from Folsom High School in 1964. In 1965, he enlisted in the United States Navy. His career began as an x-ray technician corpsman. He quickly rose through the ranks and after being selected as a Chief Petty Officer, he attended Physician's Assistant school. Upon graduation, he was commissioned a Naval Officer and served in many aspects of the medical field, orthopaedics being his preferred choice. He retired from the Naval Hospital Bremerton, Washington in 1995 as a Lieutenant Commander. After moving to Flagstaff in 1996 with his wife Helen, he continued his medical career at Northern Arizona Orthopaedics until his retirement in 2011.

Flagstaff was the home he always wanted. He contributed to his community generously with his time, wood crafting talents, and small but plentiful gestures of kindness and thoughtfulness to all. He enjoyed the outdoors, most notably hiking the Grand Canyon, biking, tennis, running, and cross country skiing. A beer connoisseur, he was also fond of a good cup of coffee and never turned down a scoop of ice cream.

He was loved deeply by and is survived by his mother, Joan Mae Jones (Tibbett); wife Helen Hiromi (Hayakawa) and their daughter Hannah Nizhoni; his two daughters, Kristy Dawn McCallum and Michelle Lee Ann Granson (Richard); and grandson Nicholas Luke. He is preceded by his brother Russell Merle McCallum.

A Celebration of his Life will be at the Summit Center, 1485 N. Turquoise Dr., Sunday March 22, 2015 at 2:00-4:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Wounded Warrior Project, Grand Canyon Association, or the Nature Conservancy are appreciated.
