David William
Morefield
Aug 18, 1959 — Jul 28, 2024
David William Morefield (64) passed away at his home on Sunday, July 28th, 2024. Born on August 18th, 1959, in Phoenix, Arizona, to Dolores and Dennis Morefield, Dave moved to Flagstaff with his family in 1965. He graduated from Coconino High School in 1977 before attending Yavapai College to earn his Associates Degree. Then returning to Flagstaff to study Journalism at Northern Arizona University. Dave began his career at ADOT Arizona Department of Transportation, where he worked for 15 years, being promoted to various roles. After retiring from ADOT, he spent time at Swire Coca-Cola before fully retiring in 2017.
In 1987, Dave married the love of his life, Linda Morefield, with whom he shared 37 wonderful years in Flagstaff. Together, they raised their two daughters, Zelle and Stephanie, and embarked on countless adventures. Dave relished outdoor activities and exploring new destinations. Time at the beach and days on the lake fishing held a special place in his heart as his self-proclaimed "happy place".
Dave formed strong bonds within the Flagstaff Cruisers Car Club and had a deep passion for cars; leading him to attend car shows, drag races, and eventually become the President of the Club. He could often be spotted meticulously polishing his Grabber Orange colored Shelby convertible affectionately named "Marigold."
Dave was also known as a grill master, a talented baker, a handyman, and a sports fan. He shared his love of great food with all, and always had an extra seat at the table for anyone that might happen to stop by at dinner time. He regularly attempted and perfected his mom's secret recipes. Skilled in home improvement projects and quite the handyman, he embraced challenges and was persistent in finding solutions for repairs. His enthusiasm for sports was evident through the constant ESPN highlights chiming on his phone and games playing in the background on TV. He delighted in calling his daughters to chat about the latest sports news and game highlights, all while eagerly planning their next big game to attend.
Dave is survived by his beloved wife Linda Morefield of Flagstaff, AZ; his daughter Zelle Bannister and her husband Nathan of Phoenix, AZ; his daughter Stephanie Morefield of Naples, FL; as well as his siblings, Laura (Denny) Gagnon, Tom (Karen) Morefield, and Dan Morefield; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His immense sense of humor, brimming with quick wit, frequently brought joy and laughter by lightening the mood in various situations. Dave truly enjoyed making people laugh. Although Dave will be missed every day, there is comfort in knowing he is now reunited with his late parents, Dennis and Dolores Morefield.
A celebration of life will take place at the Flagstaff Elks Lodge on Sunday, October 6th, 2024, at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the Assistance League of Flagstaff (Cedar Closet) or Mountain Girl Rescue in his honor.
