Dennis "Denny" Edward Nielsen, 60, died Monday February 2, 2009 in Flagstaff, AZ. He was born on March 21, 1948 in Chicago, IL to Hans Christian and Lois Nielsen.
He grew up in southwest Chicago attending Oaklawn High School where he graduated in 1966. In 1967, he joined the United States Marine Corps. After serving four years of active service and two years of reserve service, he settled in Phoenix, Arizona. He attended College at Maricopa Technical Community College and earned a degree as an Electronics Technician in 1978. After twenty-five years of dedicated service, he retired from General Electric Medical Systems Division in 2004.
Denny enjoyed mountain biking, motorcycling, skiing, horseback riding, hiking, solar/wind power generation, playing guitar, reading, and carpentry. He will greatly be missed for his love of life, great sense of humor, and friendly personality.
Denny is survived by his wife, Julie, of Flagstaff; children Krista and Thomas Alt of Phoenix, Jason and Maia McCauslin of Flagstaff, Clayton and Andrea McCauslin of Flagstaff, Mandy and Matthew Leach of Las Vegas; his brother Dale Nielsen of Clarkdale; and four beloved grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Hans Christian and Lois Nielsen and his brother Don Nielsen.
A celebration of Denny's life will be held at Norvel Owens Mortuary on Saturday, February 7th at 2:00pm at 914 E. Rt. 66 in Flagstaff. There will also be an Open House at the home of Denny and Julie following the service.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations be made in Denny's name to the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Flagstaff.
