Obituary

Edward Stoppa, 78, of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away Friday, July 20th, 2007, in Flagstaff, Arizona. A memorial celebration will be held at First United Methodist Church in Mountain Home at 10am, Friday, August 10th.
Ed was born in Chicago, Illinois on July 7th, 1929. He enlisted in the Army when he turned 18, and thanks to an early discharge was drafted during the Korean War, but served in Germany and France. He was also in the Air Force and served at Luke Air Force Base in Litchfield Park where he was a proud firefighter. He fell in love with Mary Lucile Albers in 1957 and they married a year later in Lordsburg, New Mexico. They will celebrate their thirtieth anniversary on August 19th of this year. Ed was a mapping specialist at Salt River Project, in Phoenix, for 29.9 years. Ed and Mary Lu retired to Mountain Home in 1990.
Ed is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Rob Evans of Grand Canyon, Arizona, his daughter and grandson, Janice and Austin Edward Hoiden of Mesa, and his daughter Scarlett Stoppa of Chicago, Illinois; his sister and brother-in-law, Hilda and Bill Nix of Seattle, Washington; and a host of nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his mother Anna Winkler, his aunt Ludmilla Oppliger, his daughter Kathie Anne, and his wife, Mary Lu.
Ed loved his family, going to town to visit with his friends at the hospital, Harps, and That Pawnshop, and learning all he could about sundry subjects, including guns, rocks, ham radios, solar power electricity, welding, and home repair. He was an active member of First United Methodist Church, and a member of the American Legion and the Ozark Mineral Club. He aspired to make his fortune through gold prospecting, or the Lotto.
