Obituary

Elaine Turley Rogers passed away on June, 18, 2014. She was born on May 11, 1930, in Woodruff, Arizona to Charles H. and Elizabeth Ann Hunt Turley. She grew up in Woodruff. She married Orson W. Rogers on February 9, 1949 in the Mesa Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They raised their family in Joseph City.

Elaine was a faithful, bright and active woman. In high school she was a student officer, a leader in clubs and organizations, and a member of the highly regarded Holbrook High School Drum and Bugle Corps. She enjoyed family history, music, sports, plays, old movies -- especially musicals -- puzzles and games. She served in the PTA. She gave dedicated service to her Church, with many years in the Primary organization and as a ward Relief Society president. She could always be counted on when a compassionate service need arose.

She excelled at the art of homemaking. She would rather read a cookbook than a novel. Following her mother's example she could never let anyone go hungry. She was well-known for her brownies, cinnamon rolls, pies, and jellies. She was an excellent seamstress making most of her own and her children's clothes for many years. She crocheted, quilted, and made rugs. She welcomed her family and their friends into her home with warmth and care. She had infinite patience and a good sense of humor.

Her last years were difficult as Alzheimer's took its terrible toll. But even near the end she wanted to come home and help with the garden or make sure everyone had something to eat.

Elaine is survived by her devoted husband of 65 years, Orson W. Rogers; her children Sandra, George Charles (Sue Ann), and William Dale (Merlin); her grandchildren and great grandchildren; her brother Frank L. Turley; and her sisters Alma T. Heaton and Verdell T. Button; and many other loved ones and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Charles M. and Norman H. Turley.

Services will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on north Westover in Joseph City. A viewing will be at 9:00 am prior to the service. Internment will be in the Joseph City Cemetery.

The family expresses its appreciation to the Winslow Campus of Care for their compassionate care of Elaine during the last year.
