Elbert "Al" Vogel 1931-2023

Elbert "Al" Vogel, 92, of Flagstaff, Arizona passed away on October 19, 2023 in Flagstaff. He was born on July 15, 1931 in Columbus, Ohio to Paul and Dorothy Vogel. Al was a warm and friendly person who "never knew a stranger." He will be sorely missed by his many friends and family throughout the Flagstaff community as well as across the nation.

Al is survived by his loving wife Maralyn of sixty-eight years and five children, Victoria Vogel (Grant Rudolph), Valerie Jones, Vince Vogel (Linda), Vance Vogel (Toni) and Vonda Patton (Frank) of Flagstaff, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and "adopted" grandchildren who affectionately referred to him as "Daddy Al."

Al is preceded in death by his mother and father and four brothers, Paul, James, Jerome and Robert, and son-in-law Grant Rudolph.

Al attended primary school in Columbus and then graduated high school from Aquinas College High School in the same city. After graduation he attended The Ohio State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in industrial management in 1956. He was a lifelong fan of his alma mater and was always proud to be a Buckeye.

From 1953 to 1965, Al served in the Air Force and Air Force Reserves and rose to the rank of First Lieutenant. As a Korean War veteran, he was proud of his time in the military and had a great love for his country.

After his military service, Al began a successful career with Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Corporation where he worked for thirty-six years in production management.

A ceremony to honor and remember Al will be held at San Francisco de Asis on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
