Eunice Josephine Anderson, a lifelong resident of Flagstaff, passed from her earthly home

September 27, 2023, at the age of 97.

Eunice was born July 17, 1926, to Eula and Oscar Hubbard. Along with three sisters and one

brother, she was raised on the family homestead near Cosnino. Eunice attended a one-room

school house until the eighth grade and, thereafter, commuted to Flagstaff High School. During

the early years, trips to town were uncommon as they involved day-long wagon rides. However,

as time and the world progressed, her parents were able to purchase a Model "A" Ford, allowing

Eunice to experience the convenience of the changing times.

While in high school, Eunice enjoyed ice cream socials, picnics, and country dances. After

graduating, she worked at the telephone company as a switchboard operator and moved into an

apartment in town.

Eunice started dating Rodney Anderson, who was serving in the Marines. They were married

December 6, 1945, and lived for a short time in San Diego as Rodney completed his military

service. In addition to rearing four daughters, Eunice provided in-home daycare. Over several

decades, she helped raise over 150 children from the community. With these children, as with

her own, Eunice exuded kindness and love. Through her big heart and gentle being, she

created a nurturing, safe home where children learned in a caring, structured environment. They

joyfully played with toys, some even hand-made by Rodney. Many children stayed connected to

Eunice and would still come after school to catch the bus to her home.

Although Eunice did not play musical instruments, she enjoyed and valued music greatly. In fact,

Eunice insisted that her four daughters learn to both read music and play themselves,

dedicating some of her earned income to pay for instruments and lessons. The Anderson family

gathered at Eunice's home often, and she enjoyed the boisterous laughter and fun that was had

by all those that she loved.

Eunice was a member of the First Christian Church and Christ Church. In her younger years,

she taught Sunday School and volunteered in many essential roles, including preparing

communion.

Always quick to smile, very humorous, hardworking, and loving to all, Eunice Josephine

Anderson was the Rock of the Family. She also served as the peaceful center and loving

matriarch of many other families that were blessed to be among the Anderson's.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Rodney in 1997, her mother and father,

three sisters (Jewel Hubbard in 1935, Pauline Anderson in 2009, and Ruby Lander in 2016), her

brother (Andrew Hubbard in 1995), and a son-in-law (William Eubanks in 2018).

Eunice is survived by daughters Andrea Eubanks, Sherrie Alford (Lee), Beverly Pettay (Mike),

and Brenda Anderson, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and four

great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Eubanks, Michael Pettay, Rion Thornsley, Justin Picard, Scott

Jordan, and Jake Otzen. The service will be Friday, October 6 at 1:00 pm at Norvel Owens

Mortuary Chapel, 914 East Route 66, Flagstaff. In lieu of flowers, Eunice requested donations

be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
