Obituary

Frank Edison Porter, III, 58, died in Flagstaff, Az. Nov. 3, 2009. A third-generation native of Phoenix, Frank had made Flagstaff his home since 2003. Frank had auto and motorcycle repair businesses in the valley and was well-known for his genius and love of all things mechanical; customizing Harley-Davidson's was his particular passion. A voracious reader and life-long learner, Frank's droll wit and humorous outlook on life entertained all who knew him. He attended St. Francis Xavier and Longview elementary schools and Central High School. Frank served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Returning to Phoenix after military service he taught at the Maricopa Skill Center. Frank married Sheila James in 1974 and they had three sons. Sheila passed away in 1991. They are survived and cherished by their sons Michael, Frank E., IV (Teddy) and Zachary as well as two grandchildren, Kassandra and Xaiden. Also surviving are five sisters: Kyle, Susan, Leslie, Laurie Grano and Melissa Alcott; and four brothers: Mike, Sean, Tony and Kelly as well as many nieces and nephews. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank E. Porter Jr. and Shirley A. Porter. Memorial services at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona are planned for Monday, Nov 30 at 2:00 p.m., followed by a celebration of Frank's life. Donations to the American Cancer Society are suggested.
