Gary Kenneth Buettner, 70, of Flagstaff, Ariz., born Feb. 10, 1942, in Belleville, Ill., died on Saturday, June 23, 2012, in Flagstaff.

Mr. Buettner was an English teacher in Wisconsin, California,Arizona and various locations in Europe. Gary served on numerous state and national committees on the teaching of English.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Luella Buettner; and a nephew, Scott Buettner.

Surviving are his two brothers, Richard (Linda) Buettner of Trenton, Ill., and Steven (Sharon) Buettner of Swansea, Ill.; a niece and a nephew, Pamela Buettner and Steven Buettner, both of Belleville, Ill.

In his memory, the Gary Kenneth Buettner Memorial Scholarship Fund is being established. Donations should be sent to Wayne Adickes, 408 E. Ruess Blvd., Cuero, Texas 77954. Checks should be made payable to the University of Northern Arizona Foundation. All donations are tax deductible.

Funeral: Following his wishes, his ashes were spread in the forest near his home, where he took his walks.
