Gary Thomas Jennings, 78, of Flagstaff, AZ, passed away at sunset on Friday, September 12, 2014, after a short illness. He was born August 31, 1936, in Pleasanton, KS, to Oliver and Elva Jennings. He married the love of his life, Patricia McCoy, on March 12, 1964, in Mound City, KS. They began their lives together in Flagstaff, AZ, where they raised their three daughters. Gary was a graduate of Pleasanton High School and completed a certified program with the Operating Engineers in Equipment Operation in March of 1966 and pursued a career in construction, operating heavy equipment with the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local #428, for 50 years. He worked in 26 states over the years and drove hundreds of miles to get back home to Flagstaff and his family. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Jack. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia (Pat); daughters: Sharryl, Flagstaff; Shawna (Mark), Hobbs, NM, and Stacie (Chris), Flagstaff, AZ; grandsons: Marcos, Providence, RI; Garrett, Flagstaff, AZ; Will, Hobbs, NM. He is further survived by his sister, Lois Simons, Mound City, KS, sisters-in-law: Geneva Jennings, Colleen Troth, Kathy McCoy, Verna (Jack) Bright, all of Pleasanton, KS, as well as many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind many friends and neighbors and his garden.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 17th at 1 p.m. at Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel preceded by visitation at Noon. Graveside services will follow at Citizens Cemetery.
