Obituary

Geri Burton, 61, died November 6, 2011, with her family by her side in Munds Park, Arizona, after a six-month battle with cancer.

A memorial service is scheduled Friday, November 11, at Norvel Owens Mortuary in Flagstaff at 6pm.

She was born January 12, 1950, in Atchison, Kansas, to James and Josephine Hagen.

Geri attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City and earned a doctorate in psychology. She practiced there for over twenty years in family and marriage counseling while raising her two children. She had a special interest in Native American culture and moved to Arizona in 2003 where she worked for Coconino County for the next eight years.

Her interests included family, gardening, tennis, bird watching, archaeology and traveling throughout the Southwest. She devoted much of her time and energy as a loving and trusted confidant for many of her friends and family. Among her favorite activities was traveling to birding spots with her sister.

Geri is survived by her sister, Gay Haefner, and her spouse, Mike; daughter, Amanda Wilkinson, her spouse, Jared, and expected grandson; son, Neal Burton; and, two nephews, Scott Haefner and Matt Haefner, along with his spouse, Jen, and two sons, Alex and Nate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the American Cancer Society, with a designation for lung cancer research.
