Gloria Swann (91) passed away peacefully Sunday, February 19, 2017. Poet, pianist, teacher, and scholar, Gloria was born February 5, 1926, in Fort Worth, TX. Brilliant and gifted, she was a "child prodigy," performing concerts, publishing poetry, and graduating high school at 16. In 1945, she married her first love, Benjamin Swann, and they raised 4 children together during their 56 years of marriage. After living in Flagstaff sporadically in the '50s and early '60s, Gloria and Ben "retired" here in 1986, where she continued to write, teach piano, hike, and enjoy the beauty of Northern Arizona. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, and husband. She is survived by her children: Alan (Carolyn), Susan, Jeffrey (Melody), and Julie; 3 granddaughters; 3 great-grandchildren; her sister; and a large extended family. A memorial service will be held in late June.
