All American Hero


Harry C. Fockler, beloved husband, father, and son passed away January 15, 2010 due to complications from cancer.


Harry served proudly in World War II as a B-24 navigator. He flew in over 50 missions in the European Theatre, earning the Air Medal. He continued to serve his country in the Air Force reserves as a Captain. Harry was honorably discharged from the reserves after 23 years of service to his country.


Harry graduated from the Art Institute of Chicago, specializing in Graphic Design. This led to a career in the aerospace industry where he worked for Douglas Aircraft Company. He was one of the original employees of the Aerospace Corporation, where he launched their art department ultimately retiring as the Art Director in 1986 after 26 years of service.


After retiring, he and his wife, Rosemary moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where they quickly became active in their community. Harry was the consummate educator and shared his immense knowledge by becoming a teacher of art and computer graphic design at Northern Arizona University. His inspiration and compassion led his students to select Harry as the Art Department's "Teacher of the Year".


Harry met the love of his life, Rosemary, while involved in the Palisades Players in southern California. They were married 53 years on June 9th, 2009. Harry was a devoted father to his children. He sacrificed his spare time as BSA Scoutmaster, Little League President, and served as an active member of PTO and high school Booster Clubs.


Harry is survived by his wife, Rosemary, his sister Phyllis Gray, his children K.C., Kim Jordan, and John, and his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he lovingly referred to as "His bridge to eternity." His grandchildren are Sarah and Hollie (Jordan), Michelle and Matthew, Andrew and Alyssa. His great-grandchildren are Brandon and Abigail (McDonald). Harry was also loved deeply by his daughters-in-law, Beth and Rebecca. Harry was preceded in death at a young age by his mother Mabel (Goss) and his father Harry Charles Fockler Sr.


Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, February 13, 2PM at St. Pius Chapel located at 2257 E. Cedar Ave., Flagstaff. In lieu of flowers, family requests that donations be sent to the Olivia White Hospice Home c/o Northland Hospice, P.O. Box 997, Flagstaff, AZ 86002. Donations for Hospice may also be brought to the memorial service.


Harry's inspiration, guidance, wisdom, compassion, and kind heart will be forever missed. The world has lost a hero, but heaven has gained an angel.
