Helen Sebah, born July 15, 1910, left this life and went to be with Jesus on April 10, 2008. She was born in Rock Point, Arizona. At the age of 14, she came to Flagstaff and spent many years as a nanny and domestic.

She earned her GED and attended Indian Bible College and NAU. She was awarded an honorary degree from NAU and her love of education continued the rest of her life. She was a Bible teacher at El Nathan Conference many summers and also at the Flagstaff Mission to The Navajos, where she taught Sunday School and played the piano. She participated in many Camp Meetings on the Navajo Reservation, sharing God's Word and playing piano for the worship services. She taught the Bible to young and old in Navajo and English. In her spare time she translated gospel hymns into Navajo and was active in a sewing ministry for Christmas giving on the reservation. She loved plants and flowers and enjoyed keeping the church building and her home surrounded by blooming beauty.

During World War II she worked at the Navajo Army Depot. When Midgley Bridge was built north of Sedona, she was in the first passenger car to cross it. They were on their way from Oak Creek Canyon to Cottonwood for ice cream. One of her memories of Flagstaff includes her exciting horseback ride being chased by a bear in the meadow that now houses the shopping center below Flagstaff Medical Center. Helen could always recite stories about Flagstaff and it's people. Some of her memoirs have been recorded and stored at NAU's Cline Library. Helen is loved by many and touched all with her love and humor and her passion for Jesus. She was always ready to help anyone who had need, she never met a stranger. She truly lived a life pleasing to God.

Helen is survived by her sister Mary and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial will be held Friday April 18, 2008 at 6:00 pm in the Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel located at 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff.
