Helen Jean Wolf, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 12, 2011. Helen was born on July 3, 1924 in Van Wert, OH to William R. and Josephine Emma (Hull) Grant. Helen is survived by seven grandchildren: Tiffany Fisher (Mesa, AZ), Heather Lalley (Chandler, AZ), Kristina Wolf (Sanford, NC), Benjamin Wolf (High Point, NC), Emily Wolf (Phoenix, AZ), Grant Parker Wolf (Gilbert, AZ) and Emma Wolf (Seven Lakes, NC); and four great grandchildren: Laura Beth Fisher, Susan Fisher, Tyler Lalley, and Ashlynn Picard. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald L. Wolf, NAU Music Professor Emeritus, two sons, Grant L. Wolf and David A. Wolf: three brothers (sisters-in-law): James Grant (Jane), William R. Grant, and Robert E. Grant (Wanda) of Ohio: and a sister (brother-in-law) Mary Evelyn Evans (Morgan) of Ohio.
Don and Helen were actively involved in their grandchildren and great grandchildren's lives, traveling the country to be there for all the special events. Frequently, they enjoyed traveling the globe, having visited Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, British Columbia, Egypt, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, Germany, France and many other destinations.
Helen and husband Don were very active in the NAU music community for nearly 30 years. They were considered parents to an extended family of student marching band and concert musicians affectionately known for decades as the "Wolf Pack". For many years, Helen was active for many years in the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority and founded the Tau Beta Sigma Music Honor Sorority at NAU.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, reception following. Helen will be interred with her husband at Citizens Cemetery.
