Mr. Herbert Ring, 94, of Williams, AZ died peacefully in his home on February 20th, 2025. He was born in Beuthen, Germany, where his family was forced to flee to Poland just ahead of the German invasion of 1939. The family secured passage out of Europe, through England and
Canada, and were able to settle in Freehold, NJ, where Herbert's father Julius, who had been a high level corporate executive in Germany, took up poultry farming to support his family. They all became naturalized American citizens. After graduating high school in Freehold, Herbert
expressed his gratitude to the country that welcomed him by joining the United States Air Force. Advanced training available through the GI bill led him to a career in electronics and computer engineering with General Electric, beginning at the NASA Space Center in Merritt Island, Florida. There he met his first wife Constance, and together they had 2 children. They eventually moved to Vienna, Virginia, where they stayed until retirement. Herbert was a deep thinker, and he also loved to work with his hands; after his retirement from GE, he celebrated his love of arts and culture by building sets for the local theater company.

He held a deep love for the outdoors, especially the mountains, and was a man of the Wild West in his heart. He loved Arizona; in the 1960's, GE would send him to Phoenix to attend technical certification programs during the winter season. On the weekends he would drive to Flagstaff, rent skis, and enjoy the slopes of Arizona Snow Bowl. Throughout the 1970's and 80's, Herbert and his daughter Heather traveled thousands of miles across the United States together, embarking on adventures from backpacking to white water rafting, and visiting the nation's Parks to learn of their history and cultural importance. While on the road, he shared with her his dream to move to the Flagstaff area one day. In 2002, a few years after Constance's untimely death from cancer, Herbert went West at last, settling in Williams, where he immediately set to work volunteering for the local fire department and at the Senior Center. He drove the Meals on Wheels van, delivering food to the needy, and became a board member with Habitat For Humanity. In those endeavors, Herbert had the pleasure of working with other dedicated community members, including Albert Parenteau, Armando Padilla, and Francis Mazza, who he would like to personally thank for their key roles in his productive and enjoyable
years in Williams. There he met his second wife, Virginia Broda, and together they shared over a decade of wonderful years, happy and grateful for each other's love and companionship.

Herbert will be remembered as a kind and generous man, dedicated to supporting his family, community and country. As Theodore Roosevelt once said, 'Speak softly, and carry a big stick'… this was Herbert's way.

A funeral service will be held at the Williams Cemetery on Wednesday, March 5th, 2025 at high noon, as he would have wanted. He will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife Virginia at the family plot near the southern border of the cemetery. All are welcome to attend, to celebrate his
life and achievements. Reception details are to be announced at the funeral service.
