Ida Smithson, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Mrs. Smithson was born in Millard County Utah to John and Rozilpha Allen on June 5, 1922. Ida graduated from Brigham Young University with a major in Physical Education. While there she met John Ladd Smithson and they were married on January 11, 1944 in the Mesa Arizona Temple. They have been residents of Flagstaff since 1956. Ida taught dance, acrobatics and gymnastics for many years. She served in many positions in her church and is know by all her friends as a great cook and seamstress. Over the years she prepared menus and meals for hundreds of wedding receptions, Relief Society Luncheons, Ward Dinners and Bridal and Baby Showers. She was always sewing something for someone. She was know for her service to others. After retiring she learned to paint with oils and watercolor. In 1988 and 1989 she and her husband served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Chickasha, Oklahoma where she continued sharing her talents. She was a great lady. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her husband, John and 4 children. Joanne Abner, Kerry L. Smithson, Geraldine Sauser and Allen J. Smithson as well as 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Of her 3 sisters and 5 brothers only Jane Noall is surviving. A visitation will be held at Norvel Owens Mortuary Sunday, January 25 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, January 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center.
