Irma Soledad (Torres) Denny
April 22, 1939 - December 6, 2023
Irma Soledad (Torres) Denny, age 84, of Arizona died on December 6, 2023.
Daughter of Genaro and Carmen Torres, Irma was born in Agua Prieta, Mexico on April 22, 1939. After spending her childhood in Mexico, the Torres family moved to Douglas, Arizona. Irma attended Douglas High School before attending college at both Cochise College and Northern Arizona University (NAU), where she ultimately obtained her Bachelors Degree in Teaching and Masters Degree in Spanish.
Irma was fortunate to meet her future husband, Thomas Donald Denny, in 1965 at an NAU school dance. Although Irma attended the dance with another individual, it was that gentleman who insisted that his friend, Tom, should "dance with Irma" and he happily did. Excited to start their new life together, they were married on January 27, 1968 in Flagstaff, AZ.
Upon graduating from NAU, Irma and Tom began teaching in Monrovia, California. From there, they moved back to Arizona and continued to teach in Douglas, AZ, where their two children, Nicole & Christopher, were born. New job opportunities arose and Tom and Irma moved to Phoenix, AZ where they raised their children.
In addition to working at Saints Simon and Jude, and other local schools in the area, Irma loved participating in her children's many activities. She also enjoyed bowling in a league, crocheting the most beautiful blankets and Christmas stockings, attending plays and musicals, reading extensively, and exquisitely & diligently preparing the church environments at the many Catholic Parishes led by Father John Coleman with friend, Marge Garguilo.
Irma was predeceased by her parents, Genaro and Carmen Torres, sister, Silvia (Torres) Gay, and beloved husband of 50 years, Tom Denny. Irma is lovingly survived by her daughter, Nicole Denny Zorn (David), her son, Christopher Denny (Joanna), her three grandchildren, Ethan Zorn, and Abigail & Andrew Denny, her brother, Genaro Torres (Teresa), niece, Anna Torres Sellers (John), and many nieces and nephews.
Irma's Celebration of Life and Funeral Mass will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024 at Saints Simon and Jude Cathedral (6351 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona 85017) followed immediately by a light reception onsite in St. Bridget Hall.
