James Edward Joyce was born July 1, 1956 in Flagstaff, AZ. James passed away June 2, 2016, at the age of 59 in Flagstaff, AZ. James is the third child of eight, born from the union of Robert, Sr. and Henrietta Joyce. He attended South Beaver, Kinsey Elementary, Flagstaff Junior High, and graduated Flagstaff High School.
During his high school years, James was on the track team, the football team and the basketball team, excelling in the sport of basketball. He earned many awards for his God-given ability to master the game of basketball, and was named to the Arizona Republic All-State team along with two other from Flagstaff High School. He was even honored as Homecoming King and Prom King. After graduating from Flagstaff High School, James received an athletic scholarship to attend Grand Canyon College.
He worked in various jobs in Flagstaff before health issues caused him to retire.
He is survived by his wife Sue of Wisconsin; 2 daughters; siblings Robert (Wanda) Joyce of Spokane, Washington, Mattie Watkins of Jonesboro, Louisiana, Debbie (Carlton, Jr.) Johns of Flagstaff, Arizona, Lisa Hatcher of Phoenix, Arizona; two aunts; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
James is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Sr. and Henrietta Joyce and brother Joe Nathan, Billy Ray and Stanley.
A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 12th at Norvel Owens Mortuary.
