James Thomas
Murphy
Nov 26, 1934 — Mar 3, 2025
Flagstaff
James Thomas Murphy, aged 90, passed away on March 3, 2025, in Flagstaff, Arizona. Born November 26, 1934, James led a life marked by dedication, intellect, and a profound sense of community.
James graduated from Power Memorial High School in New York City and Iona College in New Rochelle. His professional journey was distinguished by his role as the Chief Financial Officer at Frontier Airlines, followed by a rewarding second career as a professor at the renowned school of hotel and restaurant management at Northern Arizona University. Beyond his professional achievements, James was always comforted by numbers, which he found solace in until the end.
A devout Christian, James actively worshipped in Flagstaff and was deeply involved in his religious community, often opening his home to host missionaries alongside his wife, Celine.
James's life was a testament to his character; a thoughtful, kind, and steady leader, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished literature, particularly history, had a deep appreciation for American composers, the beauty of national parks, and never missed an opportunity to share a good joke.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 64 years, Celine, his children Gregory and Claudine, and his grandchildren Sebastian, Darby, and Jack.
A memorial service to honor James's life will be held on Saturday, March 22, at 10:00 AM at Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E Rte 66, Flagstaff, with burial to follow at Citizens' Cemetery.
