James "Jim" Schoonover, beloved husband and best friend, passed away on November 24, 2025. He was born on January 29, 1949, in Laramie, Wyoming.

Jim built a successful career in finance, beginning at Litton Data Systems in Canoga Park, California. He later accepted a promotion as a financial analyst at ITT Gilfillan in Van Nuys, California—where he met the love of his life.

Jim lived life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He had a lifelong love of sports cars—his very first being a Corvette—and he took great pride in working on his two Porsches over the years. He enjoyed staying active through tennis, golf, and hiking, always appreciating the outdoors and the sense of accomplishment it brought.

In 1995, after moving to Flagstaff, Jim embraced the natural beauty of the area. When invited by neighbors to hike Humphreys Peak, rising to 12,633 feet, he eagerly accepted the challenge and successfully reached the summit—an achievement that made those who loved him incredibly proud.

Jim also had a deep appreciation for music. As a teenager, he played guitar in a rock and roll band, an experience that brought him lasting joy. His love of music stayed with him throughout his life.

Another of Jim's great passions was the night sky. What began as an interest in amateur astronomy grew into a dedication to astrophotography. He became an active member of the NAU Astronomy Club, where he shared his enthusiasm for capturing the beauty of the universe.

At home, Jim found happiness in the kitchen. He loved cooking and experimenting with new recipes inspired by his favorite cooking programs, often recreating dishes he had enjoyed at fine restaurants across California. Sharing meals was one of the many ways he expressed his love

Jim will be remembered for his intelligence, curiosity, and zest for life, as well as for the warmth, companionship, and joy he brought to those around him. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
