Obituary

Jaynelin "Jan" Luxton

Jan Luxton, 57, long time Flagstaff resident and teacher for 31 years, died in her sleep on August 25, 2015 of cardiac failure.
Jan was born in Guilford, CT May 25, 1958 and grew up in the Philadelphia area. The family moved to Arizona, and she attended high school in Tucson. She graduated from Northern Arizona University where she played varsity tennis. She excelled at tennis, which she both played and coached. She was a member of the United States Professional Tennis Association. She loved music, which she performed and taught, and was a former member of Flagstaff's Master Chorale. She loved travel and the outdoors; and most of all, the children she taught throughout Arizona. Her students called her "Mrs. Lucky." Whether it was physical education, music, reading, or math, she charmed and challenged her students into being excited about learning and being good citizens.

She was loved and highly valued by her teaching colleagues for her innovation, professionalism, and tireless effort on behalf of her students.

Jan was a dear and loyal friend to many, always willing to help others.

She is survived by her brother Michael (Rhonda) in Kingman, and sisters Lynne, and Karen (Charles) in New York City.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Flagstaff Family Food Center, P.O. Box P, Flagstaff, AZ 86002.
