Obituary

Janice Myers Gardner passed away on February 22, 2014 at home in Flagstaff. Jan was born in East Chicago, Indiana on April 29, 1936 to Ruth and Russell Myers.

Jan was an alumnus of Indiana University and the University of Notre Dame.

She was a teacher in the Phoenix Union High School District from 1967 to 1992, During those years she taught English at West High School, Central High School, and Alhambra High School before retiring from Metro-Tech. Previously she had been a teacher in Belleville, Michigan as well as South Bend and Elkhart, Indiana.

Upon retirement, Jan and her life companion of 37 years, Roberta Connelly, retired to Flagstaff full time where they had spent summers and continued to make many friends.

Jan was a past president of her PEO Sisterhood chapter in Tempe, and she was an avid reader as well as lifelong learner.

She is survived by her life companion Roberta Connelly, of Flagstaff, her son Bill Gardner, his wife Cindy and granddaughter Sarah of Tempe.

Per her request, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers her family asks that donations be made to the Second Chance Animal Shelter of Flagstaff, and that you think of Jan the next time you pick up and read a good book.
