Obituary

Jannie Mae Turner, 80, of Flagstaff died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 30, in the presence of her family.

Jannie was born in Flagstaff of a long-time Flagstaff family, but her childhood was spent in Sedona, where she attended Sedona Elementary School. She graduated from Flagstaff High School and became a teacher in the Flagstaff School district after graduation from Northern Arizona University. She devoted her career to elementary school teaching in Flagstaff, and is lovingly remembered by three generations of her former students.

Jannie and her husband Dave (Bulldog), also a Flagstaff teacher, were known and loved by many in the community, and are especially remembered for their contribution to athletic programs at Coconino High School.

Jannie traveled widely and was a wealth of information about the history and cultures of Europe, Asia and Africa. She often enriched her classrooms and her family with stories, objects and pictures from the places she had visited.

Her greatest love was for her family, and she was devoted to and deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

She was predeceased by her husband Dave, and is survived by her son John, daughter-in-law Cindy, daughter Michelle, her brother Chuck, sister-in-law Pat, Cousin Kay, and her seven grandchildren (& their spouses) and one great-grandchild.

A celebration of her life will be held at the Flagstaff Elks Lodge on August 23, 2026 at 2:00 p.m.

If you would like to make a memorial donation in Jannie's name, please consider donating online to either the Parkinson's Foundation at Parkinson.org, or to FUSD for teacher supplies at fusdfoundation.org.
Both of these foundations were very near to Jannie's heart.
