J.C. Nichols Jr. was born on December 18, 1949 in Brandon, Mississippi. He was the first of four children born to J.C. Nichols Sr. and Flora Nichols.
J.C. grew up in Flagstaff, Arizona and graduated from Flagstaff High School in 1968. He was an outstanding athlete and was invited to play on the All-Star basketball team at his high school.
