Jesse P. Alexander was found passed away at his home in Flagstaff, Arizona on May 17, 2023. He had passed away suddenly without struggle, peacefully and gently in his sleep at the young age of 40, after working on an archaeological project in Chambers, Arizona. His family is heartbroken and bereft at his passing.

Born in Austin, Texas, on April 19, 1983, he is the son of John and Edwyna Alexander and the twin brother of Kate Alexander. A long-time Lake Travis ISD, Texas student, he was a graduate of the International School of Austin, class of 2001. Jesse was an Austin, Texas native and a long-time resident of Austin until he relocated to Flagstaff, Arizona in 2012.

He found his way into the field of archaeology, which was a fit for him physically, intellectually, and spiritually. Jesse graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology Summa Cum Laude from Northern Arizona University in 2015 and was nearing completion of his Master's when he passed away.

From the time he was very young, he had a deep-seated love and respect for nature, loved intellectual challenges, and had a tender heart for animals. He also had a deep loyalty to those he loved and respected. Jesse had worked in the field of environmental archaeology since 2015 and was recently working with Harris Environmental as a Field Director/Project Manager. Jesse's dedication to his work, quiet and kind nature, cut-to-the-chase commentary, loyalty to friends and family, and strong sense of justice were defining aspects of him that took him far in his 40 years.

Jesse also had a witty sense of humor, often leaving friends and family in stitches with his one-liners and wry observations. He had a soft spot for his nephews, passing on his love of the outdoors to them and always taking time to appreciate their special talents and unique personalities. Jesse loved animals, growing up surrounded by dogs and cats.

A loving son, loyal brother, devoted uncle, and steadfast friend, he was close to his entire family, including his aunts, uncles, and many cousins. At the time of his passing, he was upbeat and looking forward to pursuing personal milestones and continuing to establish his career in the field that he so loved. He was always looking forward to what the next day would bring.

Jesse is survived by his parents, John and Edwyna Alexander; twin sister Kate Alexander and her husband Adam Newman; his young nephews Bowen Newman and Alexander Newman; and many loving uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Jesse's family would like to thank everyone at Harris Environmental and Cornerstone Environmental, especially Caitlin Stewart, for their love and support through this difficult time. We appreciate all that you did for him.

Norvel Owens Mortuary, 914 E. Route 66, Flagstaff, Arizona 86001 is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service honoring Jesse's life is planned for Thursday, May 25, 2023, from 2:00-3:30 pm at Norvel Owens Mortuary. A gathering will be held at his favorite local hiking spot following the memorial for anyone who would like to attend.
