John Emery Fatland

6/12/1955 to 4/14/2026

John Fatland was born in Downey, California, went to Chaffey High School and lived his early life in the Ontario and Upland area in California. John moved to Brooklyn, New York after high school but returned to California and met his wife, Laurie Wilson Fatland. They lived in Sparta, NC, Galax, VA and Kayenta, AZ before moving to Flagstaff 30 years ago. John spent some years in the ministry and was an award winning businessman working with DirecTV. He was very proud to win the Better Business Bureau Ethics award. John, his wife and daughter were able to travel extensively through Europe, Mexico and South America, getting to explore his interest in history and art. In later years John worked with at Flagstaff Medical Center in the Radiation Oncology Department and at the information desk. In his spare time he was a gifted photographer who was able to capture special moments with his camera. He lived his life helping people and was interested in everyone. His greatest joy was his daughter, Bernadette Harwood and his grandchildren, Gannon and McKinley Harwood. John tried to make everyone's day better with his sense of humor and kindness, even the nurses and health care workers he met during his illness. Thank you to all the outstanding medical professionals who helped John through his health journey, your efforts and care meant so much to John and his family. John is survived by his wife, his daughter and grandchildren along with his brothers, Gary, Jim and Bob and his sisters Sue, Mary and Jeanne. His intelligence, humor and kindness will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held for John at the Northland Baptist Church on Highway 89 in Flagstaff, AZ on September 12th, 2026 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Flagstaff Cancer Support group or Northland Christian School in Flagstaff.
