Jürgen Rainer Burmeister, 83 of Flagstaff Arizona passed away on Friday, April 19th, 2024 at his Flagstaff home. He was born in Würzburg, Germany on June 2nd, 1940, the son of Herbert and Adele Burmeister. Jürgen emigrated to Kitimat, British Columbia, Canada at the age of 15. Jürgen moved to Mesa, Arizona to attend Arizona State University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1963. Jürgen met his beautiful wife, Judith Adele Rauhouse, at First Lutheran Church in Mesa, Arizona and went on to marry her on January 26th, 1963 at Danforth Chapel located on the ASU campus. From this lovely union, Jürgen became the proud father of three children: Cynthia, Debra, and Mark.

Jürgen deeply loved his family. He taught his daughter, Cynthia, the value of working hard toward both life and career goals. He celebrated alongside Cynthia after her retirement from the city of Glendale, Arizona following 30 years of service. Jürgen was proud of his daughter, Debra, who graduated from Arizona State University with a degree in early childhood education.   He participated with his son, Mark, in Indian Guides, coached Mark's soccer team and helped Mark with his paper route. He was a father figure to Cynthia's daughter, Brittany, whom he loved very much. Brittany also graduated from Arizona State University in 2016, something that Jürgen was very proud of. He also enjoyed spending time with his two wonderful grandsons Luke and Joseph.

Jürgen enjoyed a great professional career. Jürgen was hired out of college by Honeywell, trained as a field engineer on several computer systems and then promoted into the role of instructor and working his way up the management chain to eventually running the Automation College. He retired from Honeywell in 2005 with over 40 years of service.

Jürgen had a passion for soccer, hiking and bicycling. He was the head coach of his son Mark's soccer team in the late 1970's. He followed the sport throughout his life, enjoying watching the World Cup tournaments. He enjoyed hiking Piestewa Peak in Phoenix for many years at 4:00 a.m. before heading into work. He also hiked several beautiful trails in Northern Arizona. Jürgen was an avid bicyclist in the 1990's, participating in many Tour De Force rides in the United States and Mexico. When Jürgen was a young boy, he dreamed of being either a race car driver or a professional bicycle racer.

Jürgen also loved his candy apple red BMW Z3 Coupe. He was part of the Route 66 Car Club and the Arizona BMW Z3 Club. He enjoyed the car shows and rides throughout Arizona and adjoining states. Jürgen gifted his beautiful BMW to his grandson, Drew, who will continue his grandfather's legacy with his wife (Jürgen's only granddaughter) Brittany, by competing in car shows within the same organizations that Jürgen belonged to. This brought great joy to Jürgen in his final days with us.

Jürgen enjoyed camping with his family over the course of his life and enjoyed the many pictures taken that brought back memories of their cross-country adventures.

Jürgen is preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Adele Burmeister and brothers Elmar and Klaus Burmeister. Those left to cherish Jürgen's memories are his wife, Judith Adele Burmeister, his children Cynthia Burmeister, Mark Burmeister (Shelly), Debra Miller nee Burmeister, and his grandchildren Brittany Sydow nee Keith (Drew), Luke Miller and Joseph Miller.

The funeral service will be held 11:30 Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church, 2605 N. Fort Valley Road, Flagstaff Arizona, 86001. Burial at citizens cemetery will conclude services.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Jürgen's name to the Cancer Society of America.
