Kelly Jean Bell passed away at home on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

Kelly made her entrance into this world at 12:01 a.m. on August 14, 1964 - just a minute into the day, and right on her own time. That timing was fitting for someone who always did things her way. Born to Peggy Sue and Buddy Bell, Kelly grew up running with her four brothers. Being the only girl in that crew made her tough early on. She could hold her own, speak her mind, and didn't scare easy. Life gave her grit, loyalty, and a deep love for her people. As a young woman, she loved the rodeo and loved barrel racing. She wasn't afraid of speed, dirt, or anyone. She was strong, fearless, and a little wild.

She loved live music, especially the blues. There was something about blues music - the soul, the grit, the honesty- that spoke her language. You could find her at a show or with music playing loud enough to feel it. Kelly spent many years in the service industry across Northern Arizona. She bartended, managed, and coordinated weddings at places like Adobe Grill, Mountainaire Tavern, Monte Vista Hotel, and El Tovar Hotel. She worked hard, told it like it was, and built real friendships along the way. People remembered her - sometimes because she made them laugh, sometimes because she kept them in line -but always because she was authentically herself.

If you knew Kelly, you knew her dogs came first. She loved them fiercely. She worked as an animal trainer for a time and became a champion for abused and neglected animals, a true dog rescue advocate who never hesitated to stand up for the ones who couldn't stand up for themselves. It was a long-running joke between her and her husband, Doug Southard, that in their house the dogs ranked first… and Doug came second. He knew it, she knew it, and they laughed about it often. Kelly and Doug were married on November 21, 2012, beginning a partnership built on humor, loyalty, and understanding.

Kelly was proud of her Chickasaw heritage. It was part of her backbone -quiet strength, resilience, and identity that she carried with her always. She was preceded in death by her parents, Peggy Sue and Buddy Bell, and by three of her brothers, David, Danny, and Darrin Bell. She is survived by her husband, Doug Southard; her brother, Doug Bell; many nieces and nephews; and a wide circle of friends who became family over the years. Kelly wasn't soft around the edges, but if you were hers, you knew it. She loved hard. She lived on her own terms. And she leaves behind stories, music, a dog who adored her, and people who will miss her deeply.
