Obituary


LaMell Farr Ashcroft, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great- great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully at her home on Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2023 just prior to her favorite holiday.


Born on March 8th, 1927, a few minutes before her twin brother, LaMarr, in St. Johns, AZ, she was the 5th of 10 children born to David Earnest Farr and Natalia Smith. Her father died tragically when she was just 11 years old. She grew up and attended church and school in St.Johns, and then attended Gila Academy, (Eastern Arizona College) after High School.


She married her true love, Henry Paris Ashcroft on January 2, 1947 in the Mesa LDS Temple. They were to celebrate their 77th anniversary in January 2024. They lived in Arizona, New York, and Utah. They both worked hard to care for their large family. She served in many callings in the church including as a Relief Society President, Young Women President, Scout leader and was a faithful Visiting Teacher and Minister all her married life. She loved going for rides with Henry, having visits from family and friends and telling stories. She and Henry served for more than 20 years in the Mesa Temple. They also served three missions for the church. One in Columbia, South Carolina, one in England, and one in Nauvoo, Illinois. She was proud of her ancestors and loved to remember their efforts to settle in Arizona and Utah. She was also the last surviving granddaughter of Jesse N. Smith.


She leaves behind her loving husband, Henry, and a great and numerous posterity including 9 children; Rachel and Doug Aaron, Evelyn and Bill Luce, Nancy Holappa, Wendy Buhr, Marla and Steve Jones, Leland Ashcroft and Kimberly Olson, Scott and Mary Ashcroft, Ann Ozment, Russell and Belinda Ashcroft. She is also survived by 60 grandchildren and their families, 125 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren with 3 more on the way. She is also survived by her sister-in-laws Nelda Reich and Jan Farr, and her brother-in-law Rulon Ashcroft. She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews and other family members.


She was preceded in death by her sons Alan Henry and Marvin Ernest, her son-in-law Doug Ozment, her parents and all of her brothers and sisters. Also, her grandchildren Daniel Ashcroft, Alexa Ashcroft, Donovan Ashcroft and Matthew Ozment.


Funeral Services will be held on Friday December 29th at 11:00 at the Alta Mesa Stake Center located at 5350 E. McLellan Rd. Mesa, AZ 85205. Viewing will precede the funeral beginning at 9:30. She will be buried at the Eagar, AZ cemetery on Saturday, December 30th.
