Lloyd Raymond Hoener

March 30th, 1925 – March 12th, 2012





Lloyd Raymond Hoener, 86, went to be with the Lord on Monday March 12th, 2012 at his home in Flagstaff Arizona, with his wife at his side ministering to him as he stepped into heaven

Born and raised in Stafford Kansas, the son of Edward L. and Rosa (Heimuller) Hoener, he worked as a teenager in the "Hoener's Grocer," a store owned by his father.

After graduating from Stafford High School, Mr. Hoener joined the Navy and served aboard a submarine in the Pacific during World War II. After an honorable discharge he returned to Stafford and on July 8th, 1946 married his high school sweetheart and lifelong love Juliene Groseclose.

Lloyd graduated from Colorado State (Aggies) with a degree in forestry. This began his career as a National Park Service Ranger. The family grew as his years grew in the National Park Service with all three of his sons being born in National Monuments and Parks. Neil Hoener born in Fort Collins on March 13th, 1951 - Kirby Hoener born in Carlsbad Caverns on April 27th, 1954 and - Stanton Hoener born in Yellowstone National Park on June 21st, 1957. Some of the other natural wonders that the family experienced were Zion National Park, special assignments in Washington DC, Glacier National Monument and Yosemite National Park.

In 1980 after 30 years of service, Lloyd and Juliene retired from the National Park Service, moving from Grand Canyon to settle in Flagstaff Arizona. Having been an avid Square Dancer, Photographer, Elk Wrangler, Skier, Snowshoer, Hunter, Marksman and Hiker, Lloyd continued his physical activities with long distance running and racquet ball. He was a Council Member of the Lamb of God Bible Church and an active church member for 21 years. His perfect Sunday was Church at 10 am followed by lunch at the China Star restaurant.

He leaves his wife of 65 years, Juliene (Groseclose) Hoener; three sons and their spouses, Neil and Venessa Hoener, Kirby and Jeannie Hoener, and Stanton Hoener; his nephew Joe Hoener; his niece Sarah (Shirer) Hoener; 10 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and many close friends.

Lloyd is preceded in passing by his mother Rosa, his father Edward L. and his brother Grant and wife Helen.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 PM on March 17th, 2012 at The Lamb of God Bible Church at East 7th Avenue, Flagstaff. A grave side burial service will be held at a later date at Stafford Kansas Cemetery in Stafford Kansas
