Lois Marie (Lee) Roper

Lee Roper, of Flagstaff, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2005, with her family by her side. She was 82 years old and a cancer survivor for many years' Her kindness, loyalty and generosity to friends, neighbors and family will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She loved animals throughout her life and at various times had dogs, cats, birds, fish and a skunk as pets. Lee was devoted to her husband, Bob, who passed on in November, 2004 after 51 years of marriage.

Lee was born September 2, 1922 in Duluth, Minnesota, to Oscar and Marie Brewer. She was especially close to her father, a policeman who became Chief of Police in Duluth.

His nickname for Lee, 'The Kid', stayed with her for many years. Lee graduated from Duluth Central High School and received a B.S. in Nursing from the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, in 1945. She was proud to have been a Registered Nurse (RN), serving as a young woman in California and for several years later in Duluth.

Both Lois and Bob were widowed at early ages, each with a little boy, and had the good fortune of meeting one another in Duluth. They were married in 1953, raised three boys, and lived in Duluth for many years. In 1965, Lee and her family moved to Billings, Montana. Lee took great pleasure in being a homemaker, using her artistic skills and supporting community activities. She liked meeting people, was active in the Lutheran Church, and developed lasting friendships wherever she lived. Lee and Bob moved to Flagstaff, Arizona in 1998. Lee enjoyed writing and receiving letters to keep in touch with friends and family around the country.

Lee's parents and husband preceded her in death. She is survived by three sons, David(Yvonne Jardine), of Holyoke, Minnesota; Michael (Barbara) of Reno, Nevada; and Jim (Kaye) of Flagstaff. Five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, two nephews and a niece also survive her.

Services will be Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 2:00 PM at Living Christ Community Church, 6401 N. Highway 89 in Flagstaff. Interment will follow at the Flagstaff Citizens Cemetery, 1300 S. San Francisco Street in Flagstaff.
