Obituary

Lucille Dorius Stapley, 94, of Phoenix, peacefully passed away August 31, 2009, with family at her side. Lucille was born in Ephraim, Utah, November 14, 1914 to Lewis S. and Eulalia N. Dorius. She was the only daughter of six children. She married Clayton M. Stapley July 1936 in the Manti, Utah Temple. She and her late husband owned Clay Stapley's Western Wear in downtown Phoenix until 1980. Lucille's greatest joys were her family, faith, music and love for beautiful fashion. She graduated from the Woodbury College of Design in 1936 earning awards for outstanding fashion design. She was accompanist for Camelback, Arcadia and West High Schools choral groups, in addition to being organist for her church and teaching piano until age 92. She was a loving mother and grandmother and we will greatly miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton in 1973, her daughter Laurel Stapley Gooch, son-in-law William R. Gooch, and infant daughter Clay Stapley. She is survived by her brother Moyle Dorius; son, Paul M. Stapley; daughters, Joalyn Miller and Ann S. Garvey; 19 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren. The viewing at 9:00 am and the funeral services at 11:00 am will be held Saturday, September, 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 1835 E. Missouri, Phoenix, AZ 85016. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LDS Perpetual Education Fund or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
