Marie Elizabeth Hughes, 87, of Flagstaff passed away September 2, 2009. She was born March 10, 1922 in the District of Columbia to John and Margaretna Furlong.

As a young child she moved to Arizona with her family. In 1942 she married William M. Hughes and they moved to Flagstaff in 1975. They enjoyed may years together until his passing in October of 2002.

She was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She work as receptionist for doctors offices and then with The American Cancer Society which she loved. She enjoyed her family and friends, nature, baseball and feeding her wild cats. Her grandson, Jerad was the apple of her eye.

She is survived by her children William (Carolyn) Hughes, of Flagstaff, and Linda Lee Hughes of Laguna Beach, CA. Grandson Jerad Hughes of Flagstaff, Brother Johnny (Mary) Furlong of Tucson, Sister Edna Altman of Phoenix, nieces and nephews Janet and Dick Altman, Carol Ohlumd and Dick and Bobbie Hughes.

A Celebration of her life will be held Sunday, September 6, 2009 at the Norvel Owens Mortuary Chapel, 914 E. Route 66.
