Marie Karlsek passed away peacefully in her home, at the age of 90, on July 9, 2010, just three days before her 91st birthday. Marie was born July 12, 1919 in Rzeszow, Poland.

Toward the end of World War II, Marie fled Poland and the Russians, with her husband, Gustav Karlsek, and her small three year old girl. Along their dangerous passage the little girl became ill and died. After the war the Karlseks were able to immigrate to the United States. Eventually they settled in Flagstaff and have been here since 1951.

Marie is survived by her daughter Annamarie (Don) Dickinson, of Oregon, and a sister-in-law and nieces and a nephew in Poland. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gustav, in 1994, a baby boy at birth and the little girl mentioned above.

Marie was an avid lover of a beautiful garden and lovely flowers. She loved to tend her garden. She had many friends who loved her and she was an active member of the Catholic Church.

Marie Karlsek's funeral will be Tuesday, July 20th, 2010 at 10:00 am at the Nativity Catholic Church on Beaver and Cherry Streets. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.
