Jun 5, 1933 — Apr 12, 2024
Molly Hogden was born June 5, 1933 in Sparta, Wisconsin and died April 12, 2024 in Flagstaff, Arizona, surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who is deeply loved.
Molly grew up in Sparta, Wisconsin, with her parents Alexander and Clara Strait, and with sister Sylvia Lorraine (Bjerke), and brothers Clayton and Donny Strait. This is where she learned her love of baking and cooking lutefisk and lefsa. Molly was proud of her Norwegian heritage. Molly graduated from Sparta High School and then went on to obtain her license as a Beautician. Molly worked at Fort McCoy in Wisconsin for a time when a girlfriend set her up with a blind date where she met the love of her life, Norman Hogden. Molly and Norman were married on September 24,1955. After marriage, Molly and Norman made their home in Beloit, Wisconsin where they raised three daughters: Gigi, Jill, and Ginger. She always said, "raising her daughters was the best time of her life".
Molly proudly worked as a Beautician and then later became a proud owner of salons in both Beloit, WI and Flagstaff, AZ. She and her daughter, Ginger owned Shear Perfection Beauty Salon for over 32 years. Being a woman owned small business in Flagstaff held a deep sense of pride for her. She had active roles in church at both Our Savior's Lutheran in Beloit and Shephard of the Hills Lutheran in Flagstaff. She was a Sunday school teacher and Alter Guild for many years. She also volunteered with any church activity she could over the years with luncheons, member directory organization and Bible studies.
Molly is survived by her daughters Gigi (Dave) Sorenson; Jill (Dave) Weber; 6 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren. Her many friends were like family to her. She will be in our hearts forever.
She is proceeded in death by her parents Alex and Clara Strait, husband Norman Hogden, daughter Ginger Hogden, and brother Clayton Strait.
Celebration of her life will be at Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church at 2:00pm, Sunday April 21, 2024, with a reception to follow at the Shepherd of The Hills Lutheran Church 1601 N. San Francisco St. Flagstaff, AZ 86001
