Martha Jean Portree, 40, died Saturday, July 7 in a collision on Hwy 89 when a northbound car veered across the center lane into the right southbound lane and struck her car head-on. She was killed instantly.

She is survived by her 4-year-old daughter Samantha, who was in the car with her at the time of the collision and is now recovering, husband David, mother Helen Munies, sister Lynne Munies Scognamaglio, and brother William Munies. She was preceded in death by father Richard Munies Sr., brother Richard Munies Jr., and sister Elizabeth Munies.

Martha was a reference services librarian at the NAU Cline Library. She cherished most playing with her daughter Samantha, assisting library patrons with challenging research questions, birding, hiking, biographies, and her many friends.

A memorial ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 14 in the NAU Cline Library Auditorium. All are welcome. A reception will be held afterwards. She will be interred with her father, brother, and sister near her birthplace in New Jersey.
