Mary Elizabeth Del Giorgio, Flagstaff resident since 1973, died on December 3rd .

She is survived by her children, Michael Del Giorgio of Los Angeles; Marty, Joe and Elizabeth Del Giorgio of Flagstaff; Jean Del Giorgio of Verde Valley; Lucy and Dolores Del Giorgio of Tucson; and Luke Del Giorgio of Bellingham, WA. She also leaves behind 13 grandchildren: Margaret Adcock, Jesse Adcock, Jason Del Giorgio, Miles Brinkman, Mark Del Giorgio, Shannon Baggett, Alexis Smith, Ashley Messina, Ariane Del Giorgio Sanner, Isaiah Del Giorgio, Ethan Del Giorgio, Joseph Del Giorgio and Sofia Del Giorgio as well as 8 great grandchildren and her sibling Martha Reeves. She was predeceased by her parents, Frank George Spath and Josephine Mary Metz.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1938, Mary enjoyed the snow and reading books. She moved with her family to Orange County California in 1952 and graduated from Mater Dei High School in 1956.  In 1957 she married Lee Martin Del Giorgio and subsequently lived in various towns in California including: Santa Ana, Lompoc, Solvang, Ojai and Ventura before moving to Arizona.

When the family moved to Flagstaff in 1973, Mary continued to enjoy the out-of-doors and would often take extensive walks with her dogs and anyone who would go with her. She completed a Master Gardener course and served on the Flagstaff Community Tree Board that helped to create a handbook on trees entitled, Beyond the Ponderosa: Successful Landscape Trees for Higher Elevations in the Southwest .

Mary also loved working with small children and volunteered for 15 years at Head Start Clark Center through the Northern Arizona Foster Grandparent Program. Another part of her sense of community came from being a member of Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church where she especially loved to sing as part of the congregation during weekly services.

A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. at Buffalo Park, Flagstaff, AZ on June 22, 2019.
