Apr 10, 2002 — May 22, 2023
Yuma
Mason James Sperry Tacey, 21, passed away on May 22, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, determination, and love. Born on April 10, 2002, in Grand Canyon, Arizona, to Dennis and Amy (Snyder) Tacey, Mason spent his childhood in the beautiful South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. He was an adventurous soul who loved hiking, rafting, rock climbing, and exploring secluded areas. Mason was also passionate about cars, bikes, music, his pets, camping, boating, and riding ATVs and motorcycles in remote areas in the state of Arizona.
Mason was an active member of his community, participating in scouting and sports, including basketball and track and field. He set three new school records and always aimed for personal bests. Mason was a proud member of the Grand Canyon High School track team and spoke highly of his coaches and teammates. He was a mentor and a friend, always offering constructive advice and striving to be better in every aspect of his life. Mason never gave up and always gave the best. He loved to challenge himself both mentally and physically, never backing down from a challenge.
After graduating from high school in Midland, Michigan, in 2020, Mason joined the Marines and was stationed in Yuma, where he worked on aircraft. He cherished the time spent with his fellow Marines and documented his progress in the gym, with the goal of entering a bodybuilding competition. Mason was an extraordinary individual. He was a driven, smart, and respectful young man who touched the lives of many.
Mason is survived by his parents, Dennis and Khim Tacey; his siblings, Zach, Spencer, and Amy Grace; his grandparents, Clarence Tacey and Loretta Tacey; his aunts and uncles, Diane (Jose) Castillo, Cathy (Aaron) Winters, Tim (Trude) Snyder, Dan (Deborah) Snyder, Matt (Marnie) Snyder, Gretchen (Blair) Hillman, and Heidi (Andrew) Weeks; and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Amy, in 2010, and his grandparents, Don and Linda Snyder.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, June 5th, at the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma. Mason's family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, June 7th, from 1-3 pm at the Shrine of the Ages South Rim of the Grand Canyon National Park. Interment will follow at the Grand Canyon Pioneer Cemetery from 3-4 pm, where Mason will be buried next to his beloved mother, Amy Tacey. David Perkins, Mormon branch president of Grand Canyon, will officiate the ceremony. Arrangements are being handled by Norvel Owens Mortuary. Mason will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories of those who loved him.
